The Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ Sectoral Leadership Awards are established as a complementary tier of honours within the broad framework of the Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ Prize for Leadership.

The Awards are intended to identify, recognise and project individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and transformative impact within specific sectors of society.

Their establishment reflects the recognition that exceptional leadership is often demonstrated within particular spheres of national life through the building of institutions, advancement of human development, promotion of social justice, responsible stewardship of organisations and sustained service to society.

The Sectoral Leadership Awards shall complement, but remain distinct from, the Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ Prize for Leadership, which shall retain its singular status as the Foundation’s flagship and highest leadership honour.

Objectives

The objectives of the Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ Sectoral Leadership Awards are to:

• Identify and recognise individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership within designated sectors of society
• Promote the values of integrity, vision, courage, competence, accountability, innovation and commitment to the common good
• Project credible role models whose leadership and achievements can inspire present and future generations
• Encourage higher standards of leadership, institutional stewardship and public service
• Stimulate public discourse on the meaning, responsibilities and societal impact of leadership;
• Recognise transformative contributions that may not necessarily meet the overarching requirements of the flagship Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ Prize for Leadership but are nevertheless of exceptional significance within particular sectors
• Extend the influence and relevance of Chief Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ’s leadership ideals across critical spheres of contemporary society

Eligibility

The Awards shall be open to living individuals within Nigeria, Africa and globally, whose leadership achievements fall within one or more of the designated categories.

Nominees should have demonstrated a substantial and sustained record of leadership and impact over a period sufficient to permit credible assessment of their achievements and character.

The Awards shall not ordinarily be conferred solely on the basis of a single achievement, project or intervention, however significant.

A nominee may be considered in only one category in a particular Award cycle.

The Foundation particularly encourages the nomination of outstanding women leaders whose achievements exemplify the values and ideals of the Awards.
