THE Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ Foundation will launch a year-long programme in Celebrations of the centenary of the birth of its Patron, Chief Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ, SAN, GCFR on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Shell Hall of the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos. The event is scheduled to begin at 11am.

The highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Foundation’s commemorative publication on the sage, titled, “Awo: On the Trail of a Titan”, a compilation of essays by a select group of some of the finest scholars on the legacies of Chief Awolọwọ and their future prospects. The foreword was written by Professor Wole Soyinka.

The publication, which was sponsored by Odu’a Investment Company Limited, will be reviewed by Ambassador Dapo Fafowora.

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has been invited as the Special Guest of Honour, while the Governors of Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo states are the Guests of Honour. General Yakubu Gowon will chair the event and the Royal Father of the Day is His Imperial Majesty, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, the Ooni of Ife.
