THE EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP SEMINAR SERIES.
The Executive Leadership Seminar series was conceived as an avenue for furthering aspects of the unique mandate and mission of the Foundation, namely, to engage in all forms of intellectual pursuit and to act as a meeting place of ideas: and to provide an intellectual frame- work to guide policy makers in their duty of evolving public policies. The Foundation has accordingly utilized this platform to host, since 1993, annual Budget Review Seminars. These seminars have attracted accomplished Nigerians with profound knowledge of the workings of the economy to deliberate on the national budget for each year. The recommendations of these Seminars are issued as communiques and given wide publicity in the national media.
In January 1995, under the Executive Leadership Seminar series, the Foundation hosted a seminar on the theme, ''Free education in Nigeria: 40 Years on" The seminar was organized to commemorate the introduction of the free primary education scheme in the old Western Region of Nigeria under the visionary leadership of Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The seminar sought to examine the context in which the free primary education scheme was inaugurated, highlight its achievements and assess its feasibility in contemporary Nigeria. The seminar was moderated by an eminent educationist, Professor C O Taiwo, and attracted other distinguished academics, retired and serving educational administrators, public servants and beneficiaries of the scheme.
LUNCHEON/DINNER MEETINGS
The Foundation occasionally hosts a guest speaker who is invited to address a particular issue of relevance to the work of the Foundation.
In April 1993, the Foundation hosted Professor Ally Mack, Executive Director of the Mississippi Consortium for International Development to a talk on "Funding Foundation". The forum provided officials and members of the different organs of the Foundation an invaluable opportunity to ex- change ideas with the guest speaker on fund-raising strategies. |
