THE ANNUAL OBAFEMI AWOLOWO MEMORIAL LECTURE SERIES
The memorial lecture series was instituted as part of the programme to commemorate the birthday of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The series has, since 1993, attracted distinguished intellectuals whose views on public affairs are at once robust and agenda- setting, but sometimes controversial.

The memorial lecture is held annually on a topic freely chosen by the guest lecturer. The series of memorial lectures are as listed below:

(1993) "The Changing Attitudes of African States to International Law in the Post-Cold War Era" delivered by Max HILAIRE, Ph.D., American, Fulbright Scholar, Assistant Professor of Political Science/ Coordinator, Caribbean Studies, Colgate University, Hamilton, New York, USA.

(1994) "Democracy. and the University Idea: The Student factor’ delivered by Wole Soyinka, Nigerian, playwright, pro-democracy activist and the 1986 Nobel Laureate in Literature.

(1995) "Re -inventing Nigeria for the Twenty -first Century" delivered by Anya o. ANYA, Nigerian, Professor of Zoology and laureate of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM).

('1996) "We Build in Vain" delivered by Gabriel o. OLUSANYA, Nigerian, former Ambassador to France, Professor of History and 01ftcer of the Order of the Niger (OON)

(1997) ''On a Platter of Gold?” delivered by, Akin L. MABOGUNJE, Nigerian, foremost development scholar, Professor of Geography and Planning and laureate of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM).

(1998) 'The Gospel of Wealth: The Role of Foundation in Nation Building" delivered by Akin ADUBIFA, Nigerian, social scientist and Programme Officer at the Carnegie
Corporation of New York.
